Lojwa Animals was the nickname we gave ourselves to describe the personnel that lived on Lojwa Island from 1977-1980 during the Enewetak Atoll Atomic Cleanup Mission. Lojwa Island was the base camp for service and civilian members assigned to remove and/or contain radioactive waste remaining from the detonation of 43 nuclear weapons during the Atomic Test Era.
